Anxiety Assessment
Anxiety Treatment You Can Access From Anywhere in Australia
Living with anxiety can make even small decisions feel overwhelming. Finding the right specialist shouldn't be one of them. Tranquil Wave Health provides anxiety treatment Australia-wide through secure telehealth, connecting you with an anxiety psychiatrist who understands the complexity of
what you're going through. Whether you're dealing with generalised anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety or a related condition, we provide evidence-based anxiety treatments tailored to you.
Telehealth Anxiety Care That Fits Your Life
For many people with anxiety, the idea of sitting in a waiting room or commuting to a clinic adds stress to an already difficult process. That's why we built our service around telehealth for anxiety from the start. You connect with your psychiatrist via secure video from home or any private space, and the quality of care is the same as you'd receive in a traditional setting. No waiting room. No travel. Just you and your clinician, focused on what matters.
Tranquil Wave Health’s telehealth anxiety service is available to adults across Australia, and appointments are conducted through Coviu, a CSIRO-developed platform with end-to-end encryption.
Personalised Anxiety Therapy and Medication Management
No two people experience anxiety the same way, and treatment shouldn't be identical either. Your psychiatrist will take time to understand your history, what triggers your symptoms, and what you're hoping to achieve before recommending a path forward. That might include anxiety therapy, medication, or a combination of both.
We take a biopsychosocial approach. That means looking at the full picture rather than treating a checklist of symptoms. Treatment plans are grounded in clinical evidence and reviewed regularly so they continue to reflect where you are, not just where you started. Contact us to learn more.
What to Expect From an Anxiety Assessment
Your first appointment is a thorough conversation. Using a biopsychosocial framework, your clinician will explore the medical, psychological and social factors that contribute to your anxiety. The goal is diagnostic clarity and a treatment direction that actually fits your life.
Initial appointments run 45 to 60 minutes. You'll have time to explain what's been happening, ask questions, and talk through your options. Most people find that simply having a clear picture of what's going on brings a degree of relief on its own.
How Anxiety Is Treated Through Telehealth Psychiatry
Anxiety disorders respond well to treatment, and anxiety telehealth has made accessing that support significantly easier. Depending on your presentation, your psychiatrist may recommend:
Psychological therapy, including structured approaches that target unhelpful thought patterns and behavioural responses to anxiety
Medication management, carefully selected and monitored based on your individual needs and response
Relapse prevention strategies to help you identify triggers early, manage symptoms over time, and hold onto your progress
Collaborative care with your GP, so that your anxiety disorder treatments are coordinated across your healthcare team
Your plan is reviewed at every follow-up. As things shift, your treatment shifts with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition in Australia. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, around 17% of Australians experienced an anxiety disorder in the previous 12 months. Despite how prevalent it is, many people go years before seeing an anxiety disorder specialist, often managing symptoms alone or assuming they'll pass on their own.
-
A GP is often the first point of contact and can provide initial support, prescribe certain medications, and coordinate referrals. A psychiatrist for anxiety is a medical doctor with an additional six or more years of specialist mental health training. That means they can:
Conduct in-depth diagnostic assessments
Manage complex or treatment-resistant presentations
Prescribe and monitor a broader range of psychiatric medications
Provide or coordinate specialised anxiety therapy
For milder presentations, a GP may be sufficient. When anxiety is persistent, complex, or significantly affecting your daily life, a psychiatrist offers a higher level of specialist care.
-
A GP referral isn't required to book, but it is required to access Medicare rebates. Without one, you can still attend as a private patient. We recommend speaking with your GP first, regardless, as a referral helps your psychiatrist understand your background before your initial appointment. Your GP can also request a once-off review by a psychiatrist, commonly known as an MBS 291 (92435 by telehealth), which has a higher medicare rebate, to assist them in treating your anxiety disorder.
-
Yes. A 2021 review published in the Journal of Anxiety Disorders found that video-based psychiatric consultations and therapy were as effective as face-to-face care across multiple anxiety disorder subtypes. Telehealth also removes barriers for people in rural and regional areas, those with mobility limitations, and those who find waiting rooms or travel distressing. It's one of the reasons we chose to deliver all our services this way.
-
It depends on the nature of your condition, your history, and how you respond to treatment. Many people notice a shift within 6 to 12 weeks of starting a structured plan, but recovery isn't always linear. Some people need shorter-term support; others benefit from ongoing follow-up over months.
Your psychiatrist will monitor progress and adjust your plan as needed at each appointment.
-
That's actually very common. Anxiety frequently co-occurs with depression, PTSD, ADHD and substance use disorders. Your psychiatrist is trained to assess and manage these overlapping presentations together rather than treating each one in isolation. You don't need separate referrals for each condition.
-
Yes. All appointments are conducted via Coviu, a CSIRO-developed telehealth platform that uses end-to-end encryption. Your personal health information is handled in full accordance with Australian privacy standards, and your session is just as confidential as an in-person consultation.
