FAQs

What is telehealth?

Telehealth works like any modern video conferencing system (e.g., Zoom or Microsoft Teams). We use Coviu, developed by CSIRO in Australia, and it is a secure, private and encrypted telehealth platform.

Your appointment can be conducted in the comfort of your own home. All you need is a stable internet connection and a device that handles video (camera) and audio (speaker and microphone).

You'll receive your own unique personal secure telehealth link to join your appointment video session. At the time of your appointment, simply click on your personal link to join the secure video session and wait for your clinician.

How long are appointments?

Appointment lengths vary depending on your psychiatrist, but generally are:

  • Initial appointment 60-90 minutes

  • Subsequent appointment 30-60 minutes

What if I need to change or cancel my appointment?

You may cancel or reschedule with a full refund (minus the non-refundable merchant fee) if you give more than 48 hours notice.

Use the “Manage Appointment” link in your confirmation email to cancel or reschedule. If you are unable to complete yourself please contact the clinic by phone: (03) 4823 2825 or email: contact@tranquilwavehealth.com.

Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will incur a 50% cancellation fee of the full appointment fee.

What pre-tests do I have to complete with my GP for my ADHD assessment referral?

We require all referrals for ADHD assessments to have the following pre-tests completed and included in the referral for an ADHD assessment, including:

  1. ECG or electrocardiogram.

  2. Blood pressure and heart rate.

  3. Urine drug screen (UDS).

  4. Pathology tests (Full blood count; liver function test; urea, electrolytes, and creatinine; and thyroid function test).

  5. If you have a co-morbid substance use disorder this information is required, as an additional permit is needed from the requisite Health or responsible State/Territory department before any stimulant prescribing is allowed. Non-stimulant ADHD medications generally do not require this extra step.

  6. Documentation outlined below.

What documentation is required for my ADHD assessment?

ADHD is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder that impacts attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Specific symptoms and their severity can change over time but for a diagnosis, symptoms must be present before 12 years of age. This is usually done using school reports, previous ADHD diagnosis as a child or adolescent and/or a parental letter:

  1. Previous paediatric or psychiatric letter/report diagnosing ADHD;

  2. A minimum of two school reports, including one prior to the age of 12 years of age; and/or

  3. A parental letter describing school and academic performance and concerns, if any.

If never previously diagnosed with ADHD, then please complete the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in adults or DIVA 2.0.

Please upload this documentation when booking your initial appointment or send this documentation to referrals@tranquilwavehealth.com prior to your appointment (at least 72 hours prior).

Do psychiatrists prescribe medication on the first visit?

Once a diagnosis is made, your psychiatrist develops a treatment plan for you that may include prescribing medications. Medications are not always prescribed.

What if I need a report or other documents completed?

We only provide treatment and do not fill in other documents or reports. If you do require some other documentation or report, please contact our staff here to discuss your requirements and the cost associated. This includes any legal documentation, workers compensation documentation, driving assessments and firearms assessments.
